Cumming Fair: Alligators and Bull Riding

The Cumming Fair had lots of attractions. The Rodeo was really fun to watch and photograph as the light was getting low in the western sky.  Old Glory made her entrance courtesy of a cowgirl on her special ride.

Then it was time for the cowboys to take over

I'm not sure if trying to ride one of these bulls requires courage or a bit of insanity.  As I think about it, the answer is both.  These guys were great and provided a lot of thrills and excitement for the crowd.

The bulls couldn't resist kicking up their heels and doing a little dance on their own.

This guy was able to handle the gator almost as good as a Georgia Bulldog can.

Lights, characters, rides (amusement and animals), and some photographs to tell the story.  The Cumming fair had it all.

Have a great day,
George

Cumming Fair Photographs...Festival of Lights and Colors

The Cumming Fair was an absolute feast for the eyes when it came to colors and lights.  The interplay of the two created a lot of opportunities for this photographer.  Here are a few images to capture the moments...

What is a fair without stuffed animals????  They want their portraits too.

Here we go 'round in circles..........

and circles

The fairgrounds were awash in colors

  And lights...

What fun to photograph and what a great celebration in Cumming, GA in October of 2011.

more to come.....

Have a great day,

Senior Portraits......Class of 2012

Sunny late summer afternoon at a local horse farm provides the perfect backdrop for outdoor senior portraits.  Lovely Miss A's sparkling personality shines.

The camera loved her.

One of the horses wanted their photograph taken too and showed up as a surprise visitor.

A pretty day, a pretty subject, and having fun making portraits that capture the moment.

It is interesting going to a location for the first time and looking at the different possible backgrounds working with, and augmenting the light to make it work.  First order of business is to have a great subject who is willing to be creative and try different things to make a great senior portrait.  Miss A fits the bill.  She was great to work with.

Have a good day.

The Joy of The Game

Remember when you were a child and playing a game was pure joy and abandonment.   Let me take you back to those days with some action portraits of Phil at his recent soccer camp.

He is ready to roll and is enjoying his time running in the field.

Phil liked spending time with his new-found friends.  They all had fun chasing the ball, doing drills, and working with their coach.

Phil is coming right at you and showing good form.

The only thing that is missing from the pictures is the squealing laughter that penetrated the air from the time the children took the field to the end.   Not to worry, the video below should take care of that. They had a blast, and taught us about the joy of the game.

Enjoy the day.

2011 Prom Night

Spring is in the air, the weather is getting warmer, and we are close to the end of the school year.  That can mean only one thing: IT IS PROM TIME!  We were delighted to capture Alexandria and Jacob as they departed for their big night.
Alex models her gorgeous smokey lavender gown.  She looks absolutely stunning and very excited.

A special moment with Sissy and goodbye kiss for Simon.

Alex greeting Jacob who looks quite handsome in a perfectly coordinated ensemble.

The start of a beautiful evening, all dressed and ready to go.  They make a lovely couple.

Backyard Discoveries

Sometime we think we have to travel a long distance to get some new pictures.  Many times these opportunities are right in our own backyard.  Something that you've seen hundreds of times and all of the sudden you see it in a different light.

Or maybe it is a new visitor that has arrived unexpectedly.

We are often in a hurry and as a result do not stop to take the opportunities to enjoy the simple things around us.  Join me in making a resolution to slow down a little and really see where we are.  In photography, and in life

Enjoy the day,
George

Web Site: Portrait of a Business: Part II

I am a portrait photographer, but have also done my fair share of product shots.  The conversations during these product portrait sittings is pretty much one sided (even if it wasn't I wouldn't admit to it) and the subjects don't listen very well.  Nevertheless, we can draw the best out of our subjects and put them in their best light.  The first photograph sets the mood.

As part of their website, the owners of Cigar 57 wanted some product photographs to provide a sampling of some of the products they offer in their store.  These are photographs that depict the types of products offered, rather than highlighting the individual products.

We had fun working with Ken and Linda in putting together a portrait of their business. The picture is now complete. Don't forget to visit us at www.georgeaubreyphotography.com .

Enjoy the day.

MS Society: Portraits of Giving

Many of us have a family member or know someone who is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  MS is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system and is often debilitating.  On Saturday March 12, a group of 60 volunteers met at the MS Society Georgia Chapter office and set out on a day of helping three people with MS.  These individuals struggle everyday to do things that we all take for granted: painting, raking leaves, gardening, and household chores.  It was a beautiful spring day (after a week of rather wintry weather) and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to capture the day in photographs.

Yard work was an important part of the day.

It was definitely a great day to be working outside.

Volunteers worked inside taking care of long awaited household projects.

At the end of the day, three big families celebrated a job well done.

The volunteers accomplished a tremendous amount in one day.  The leadership of the Georgia Chapter did a great job in organizing and executing this extremely worthwhile project.  I was grateful to be able to capture these photographs and memories of the day. Hopefully this will encourage more people to volunteer for future projects and continue their generosity to the MS Society.

Web Site: Portrait of a Business

Your web site is a portrait of your business. Making a good first impression is of paramount importance. You want your photographs tell the story of your business.  We recently completed a photo shoot for Cigar 57, a local cigar shop and lounge. Here are some of the images from our session.

A portrait of the owners provides a good introduction to your audience.  Ken and Linda were gracious hosts and excellent subjects.

When shooting indoor locations, it can be a challenge to balance out the color and intensity of the light as it often comes from different light sources.  Using gels and modifiers, we were able to accurately capture the rich colors of the interior.

Here are some views looking towards the front and rear of the store. The bar welcomes customers at the entrance, and the lounge provides a comfortable setting to chat or watch TV.

The humidor is one of the focal points of the store.

If you are in the area, stop by and see Ken and Linda.

2011 Mummers Parade Portraits

The Mummers Parade is a a tradition in Philadelphia that dates back to the first parade in 1901 although it's roots date back to the mid 17th century.   It is not only a great parade, but a great party.  I was grateful to have an opportunity to photograph parts of this event.  The environmental portraits here are a  "shout out" to the Mummers that continue in this great spectacle.  I was also delighted with the balmy 40 degree temperatures versus the usual &$#! 25 degrees for New Years Day.

This is a portrait of one of the members in the Comic division.

The Wizard makes his way up Broad Street and casts a spell over the crowd.

Who says that country music is only in the South? These folks are having a good time dancing to a country beat as are all of the spectators.

Cleopatra and her entourage make their way up Broad Street.
The butterfly flies up Broad Street towards City Hall in the distance where the parade ends and the judging takes place.  This is an extraordinary event, full of fun for all ages.  The pictures and portraits here tell only part of the story.  To take it in, reserve your place on Broad Street on January 1, 2012.
